Medicaid/Personal Care

This program allows individuals to remain at home, rather than having to enter a nursing home facility because of decreased functional ability. Personal Care services are medically necessary activities ordered by a physician which are implemented according to a nursing Plan of Care, developed and supervised by a registered nurse. An individual may qualify for personal care if he/she has functional deficites in their Activities of Daily Living. Assistance is in the form of hands-on assistance, such as actually performing a personal care task for a person. Services include personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, nutrition, and environmental support services. There is no age limit; however, a spouse or the parent of a minor cannot be a paid caregiver.
